son una sub-clase de las [[Liliopsida]], que incluye dos órdenes y 9 familias, con un total de unas 4000 especies. Son [[planta]]s [[herbácea]]s, habitualmente terrestres o epífitas, y excepcionalmente arbóreas.<br /> <br /> Presentan [[hoja]]s alternas, ocasionalmente todas basales. Sus [[flor]]es forman [[inflorescencia]]s con [[bráctea]]s de colores vivos. El [[perianto]] muestra tres [[sépalo]]s &amp;mdash;libres o connados&amp;mdash; siempre diferentes a los pétalos; éstos suelen ser tres, y pueden aparecer libres o soldados.<br /> <br /> El [[androceo]] presenta 6 [[estambre]]s en dos ciclos de tres; en algún caso sólo uno de ellos es funcional, mientras que el resto forma [[estaminodio]]s.
